I wholeheartedly believe every stay at home mom needs a hobby. Something you can do outside of just being a mom. Right?

You wear many hats. You’re changing diapers, cleaning dishes and preparing meals, but it’s so important to rediscover your passion – those things you loved doing BEFORE you became a mom, eh?

These hobbies for stay at home moms ideas are GREAT! My favorite is Number 3 & 7. If you need a new hobby, you need to pin this!

So if you need help finding a new passion or hobby, consider this round-up of my favorite hobbies for stay at home moms that are fun, budget-friendly, and might put extra cash in your pocket! 🙂

7 Fun (but Cheap!) Hobbies for Stay At Home Moms

1. PHOTOGRAPHY
Why pay hundreds of dollars for professional photos if you don’t have to? All you need is a good DSLR camera.

Anyone can learn photography! I saved a TON of money when I learned to take pictures of my own kids – and I started earning some extra cash, too, taking pictures of friend’s kids!

2. READING

I love to read. It’s a great way to escape from reality and unwind. You can feed your inner bookworm for less by exploring your local library, used bookstores, or swapping books with friends.

You can also take it a step further and start a book club. It’s a good reason to catch up with your girlfriends over wine once a month!

3. ONLINE SHOPPING

Every girl needs a little retail therapy, right? But when you’re on a budget, it’s a little hard to splurge on yourself without feeling guilty about it later. So I prefer to shop online!

You can take your time, search the web for deals and coupons, and earn cash back with Ebates – that’s right mommas! Ebates will pay you to shop online, which is how I get to splurge without feeling guilty – ha!

Ebates is 100% free to join, and when you sign up through my referral link, you’ll get a FREE $10 Bonus!

4. GARDENING

Fruits and vegetables don’t last long in my house. Buying organic isn’t cheap either. So if you enjoy planting flowers in your garden, chances are you might also enjoy growing your own produce, too!

But you don’t have to turn your entire backyard into a greenhouse. You could totally start small with an herb garden right in your kitchen!

5. BAKING/COOKING

Feeding a growing family can make meal prep feel like a chore, but cooking can actually be something you look forward to!

Having a love for the kitchen means you can try many new recipes, make your own mixes, and cook ingredients from scratch!

Plus you’ll love sneaking vegetables into your kids’ meals (without them knowing the difference!).

6. SEWING & CRAFTING

If you learn to get really good with a sewing machine or a crochet needle, you’ll save money on clothes, blankets, scarves, and more.

You can even turn your new hobby skills into a money-making side business! Sell your items on eBay, Etsy, and to your family & friends.

7. BLOGGING

This is my favorite hobby, obviously, or you wouldn’t be reading this article now! So I may be a little biased, but I truly believe it’s the best (and easiest) hobby that any mom can do!

You don’t need to be tech-savvy or pay an arm-and-a-leg to get started either.

Originally, I started blogging because I needed a creative outlet. I also wanted to connect with other moms online, but my favorite thing about blogging is the opportunity to make extra income from home!

I know so many women that turned their blogging hobby into a full-time income. They can stay home with their kids and work while they sleep.

So if you want to start blogging, my easy step-by-step tutorial will show you how! In just 10 minutes, you’ll have a blog of your own.

What to do now?

Motherhood can feel a bit mundane at times. Because you have so much on your plate, it’s easy to forget what it’s like to have a little fun.

It wasn’t until I gave one of these hobbies (blogging, of course!) a try, and carved out more ‘me’ time, that I became a much happier mom, and I want that to happen for you, too!

So take a moment to examine your passions. What would you be doing right now – aside from catching up on sleep – if no one is around?

And if you can’t come up with any ideas, refer back to this post until you find something you enjoy!
