We used to spend a fortune on groceries because I was buying food without having a real plan.
Then when we got busy, we were sitting at drive-thrus buying more food.
That’s why learning how to meal plan was a game changer because we were able to feed our family of 6 on a $80/week grocery budget!!
BUT, there came a point in my meal planning journey when I started running out of fresh ideas for dinner.
We were eating the same meals in a rotation each week because that’s all I knew what to cook within our budget. So I decided to join the $5 Meal Plan to help me cook more affordable meals at home, and what happened next AMAZED me!
What is the $5 Meal Plan and why should you care?
To put it simply, the $5 Meal Plan is a pre-made weekly meal plan that arrives in your inbox every week! It costs only $5/month and includes a menu, plus a shopping list.
Here’s what you get:
- Five dinner entrees with sides – one freezer-friendly, one slow cooker, and one 20-minute meal.
- One lunch and one breakfast
- A random goodie – sometimes it’s a dessert, beverage, or a snack!
So, with the hard work of planning done for you, all YOU have to do is buy the ingredients and cook the meals!
Here are 7 reasons I love the $5 Meal Plan:
1. You save more money
When you know what meals your family will eat ahead of time, it makes it easier to make your grocery budget go further.
Plus, the meals you get are meant to save you money, too. They only cost about $2 per person, (sometimes less). We feed our family of 6 for $5 per meal, which is AMAZING!
2. You’re laser focused when you shop
Grocery stores love to distract you. That’s why I love that the $5 Meal Plan comes with a shopping list!
Because with your shopping list in hand, you’ll know EXACTLY what ingredients you’re going to grab so you don’t walk out of the grocery store with a cart full of junk. (Been there, done that – not good.)
3. You save A LOT of time
Having my meals planned for me means I get to spend my Sunday nights with my family, instead of stressing out about what we’re going to eat for the week.
But I also LOVE that I save a lot more time when I grocery shop! That ALONE used to take me over an hour.
Now, I’m in and out of the grocery store just in time to catch my favorite tv shows!
4. You can cook less often
My favorite way to use the pre-made meal plans is to cook enough food to use for leftovers!! Instead of spending 7 nights a week in the kitchen, I get to cut that time in HALF when I make our meals stretch an extra day or so. (Yay!)
5. Or you can cook ahead
Remember when I mentioned earlier that you get one freezer-friendly and one slow-cooker meal? You can actually make these meals ahead of time!
If you don’t already own a slow cooker (this is the one I use), you’re SERIOUSLY missing out!
You can cook almost anything in a slow cooker these days. I purchased my Crock-Pot from Amazon a while back and I LOVE it! You can find it here.
4. You eat out less often
Aside from running out of dinner ideas, this was the main reason I decided to give $5 Meal Plan a try. Because when there were nights I forgot to take something out the freezer or I just didn’t know what we were having for dinner, we always ordered pizza.
Eating out more than twice per week really adds up for our big family. But once we stopped, it saved us $2,880/year!
7. You get to try new recipes!
If your kids hate eating the same meals every week (like mine did) then using the $5 Meal Plan makes it easy to try new home-cooked recipes they are sure to love! The meals are simple enough that any home cook can make – even if you have a tendency to burn toast.
Some new recipes we tried (and LOVE!) include:
- Ginger Peach Salmon
- Slow Cooker Caribbean Chicken
- 20-Minute Spinach Lasagna Skillet Dinner (I didn’t even know you could make lasagna in a skillet!)
- Pineapple BBQ Pork Chops
- Baked Cinnamon Apples With Pecans (YUM!!!)
- …and so many more!
But, if you don’t like the meal ideas they send you (there’s plenty more in your member’s library), then you can always customize your weekly meal plan to fit your family’s own tastes and preferences – they even have a gluten-free weekly meal plan!
I can honestly say, I’m really glad I found out about the $5 Meal Plan and decided to give it a try. I just can’t believe how much time AND money we save on food since I don’t have to come up with dinner ideas anymore!
Plus, when you sign up today, you will get two weeks worth of meal ideas for FREE! Then, if you decide you like it, it’s only $5 a month.
